Barack Obama a socialist in disguise?

On April 23, 2010, in Video, by FormerObamaSupporters

With the multi-billion dollar bailout of banks and the White House’s plans to reform public services, socialism was a buzzword in the US in 2009. Yet many are undecided whether Barack Obama is really socialist-oriented.

the system doesnt keep the rich at the top at all. Definately not now. Rich pay most of the taxes.
Also, they wont be paying the same. The rich will buy more items that each cost more than the things the working class citizens would get. 4 example, buying a $25-$30 steak 2-3 times a week as opposed to some1 who has 2 budget more might only buy a $20-$25 steak once a week, probably even less. This is a bit of an exxageration but thats basically my point.

  2. fsuownzall says:

Agreed, as long as it stays a reasonable percentage and remains based on goods. I dont want the rich 2 always be given more taxes. Cuz, the gov will take advantage and continue to increase taxes by percentages so we’re back 2 where we are now- the rich paying a crap load of taxes, while every1 else’s taxes went up a reasonable amnt. Now i definately agree the rich should pay more, however i would like 4 it 2 be more controlable. like what food and clothes they buy not just some fixed income tax

  3. alanbalfe says:

In one sense you are right, the someone who buys things at a higher expense will pay more than someone who buys less but if we are talking about the current sales taxes both people are paying the exact same percentage of their purchase and therefore are sharing equal tax incidence. Taxation, therefore erode a larger percentage of their income on inferior goods than higher income earners. When I am talking about the ‘rich on top’. I am not talking about upper middle class people, I

  4. alanbalfe says:

am talking about the elite. The # of billionaires in the states has gone up from 30 to 300 since the mid- 80s. and many of those billionaires have much more than a billion dollars in personal holdings. It’s not like I want the rich to be punished nor do I think that this will solve the problem of the growing gap between rich and poor but I think it would definitely channel some of the capital wasted on conspicuous consumption to better use ( depending on the types of government expenditure).

  5. alanbalfe says:

To further my argument that there is a growing gap between rich and poor in the states. Real wages (indexed for inflation) have been decreasing in the United States since the 80′s. This means enterprises win (because of lower production costs) and workers lose ( higher costs of living

  6. fsuownzall says:

Well said. And i agree. Problem is u just cant trust governments anymore 2 do it justly anymore :( The worlds so full of corruption now. *sigh* well, at least its nice 2 know there r still ppl out there who use logic and justice 2 solve problems and can get into an intelligent conversation. its been nice talkin with ya

  7. alanbalfe says:

Thanks man, it’s been nice talking to you too. You know whether you like it or not, your pretty progressive ;)

  8. MrEarth2000 says:

How do you like your change now? wait til they take even your change away and leave you with nothing! because if you have something you have a little power and that in a fascist Gov, can not be tolerated. 800 FEMA camps erected and people don’t want truth of what they are…so keep born in Africa Muslim American hater Old Bama in office and pay the piper with your life, They are selected not elected (WAKE UP SLEEPING AMERICANS AND WORLD) and smell the chem trails and see the lie’s ACT!!! NOW!!!

  9. falchard says:

lol finally someone on public TV had the balls to call what this is by its actual name, fascism. The reason its so dirty is because it was practiced by Axis powers in WW2. However Obama did not usher in Fascism in the US, Nixon did the second he got off the gold standard an adopted Keyensian Economics.
Personally in Capitalism, I don’t think anyone should be paying income taxes.

IMPEACH THE OBAMA PELOSI REID MACHINE NOWw !

  11. LiberT4All says:

That idiot rapper doesn’t know what the function of govt should be. Police departments, fire depts., post office, military are examples of what govt should do to PROTECT AND SERVE it’s citizens. Alright Mr. Rapper, guess what? I can’t make my house payment for the next 2 years. Now fork over some flow so I can pay my bills. That’s what this administration is about.

  12. LiberT4All says:

But those rich people are the ones who keep us employed. Punish the wealthy, who are largely business owners, and you punish the workers who comprise 70% of the U.S. economy.

  13. alanbalfe says:

If you look at it one dimensionally yes, higher taxes on the rich would translate into higher unemployment but you must remember that we are speaking proportionally and therefore all things must balance. Let’s say the tax shift was revenue neutral. Big business owners with ridiculous amounts of money would either have to cut their high luxury spendings or lose money. They may chose to downsize their corporations but that would hardly be rational. On the other side reductions on costs for

  14. alanbalfe says:

inferior goods and food staples could potentially translate into higher investment but lower-mid sized firms. The U.S.A. claims do discourage and act against monopoly but it’s anti-monopoly are weak and oligopolies and monopolies proliferate the united states. This consolidation combined with outsourcing has caused for higher rates of unemployment and the contraction of real wages since the 1980′s… Monopolies kill local economy and kill wages. We can see this on a global scale.

  15. 77sporty says:

obama is not an american. bush has alot of american blood on his hands. we may never have a real president again. they will not get my guns.

  16. icebreaker1588 says:

call it fascism, call it socialism… whatever it is, it’s not American. Both have nothing to do with what this nation was founded on.

  17. icebreaker1588 says:

oh and for the rap fool… of course the postal service, fire, police , the DMV are not huge threats by themselves but look whats next… HEALTH CARE. if they took control of it all at once we would fight but no we sit idly by and let them take one thing after the next. pretty soon our freedoms will be gone.

  18. grimmata says:

How do you make taxes “revenue neutral”? Are you kidding? All businesses are in business to make money. If you take away the profit incentive, they have no reason to have a business. All companies are going to run at a specific profit level or they’ll go bankrupt.

  19. grimmata says:

You’re one of those amazing intellectuals that really believes taxing oil profits on the oil companies will help relieve prices at the pump. Guess what? Taxes are passed on to the consumer. It doesn’t matter what artificial mechanisms you put in place to “protect” the consumer, the costs of doing business are gong to come from the consumer. All of you “tax & spend for the good of the people” types don’t understand the fundamental rules of profit & free market (or any market).

  20. alanbalfe says:

@grimmata The revenue I am talking about is tax revenue… not corporate revenue. The point of a pigovian tax is to offset i.e. “internalize” negative externalities. It’s basic microeconomic theory. When an individual uses oil as an input there is an external cost put onto society, if there is not taxation, there is no compensation there is no equity. Of course prices will go up because taxes are always shared by the buyers and sellers… I do in fact understand the “fundementals of a free

  21. alanbalfe says:

@grimmata market and I will tell you that no such market does exist.

  22. TEHNIQUE1993 says:

capitalism its all about one man who rules the business, hundreds and more ppl work for him, and he just whatch
in socialism its all about the worker and the state and greater good, not about who will have bilions and who doesn’t have elementary school

  23. sclf says:

Hmm hes a Muslim? Ill have to ask Reverend Wright about that one.

  24. dickr4chicks says:

It’s not a disguise. Socialists generally share the view that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and derives its wealth through a system of exploitation. This in turn creates an unequal society, that fails to provide equal opportunities for everyone to maximise their potential,[6] and does not utilise technology and resources to their maximum potential nor in the interests of the public

  25. dickr4chicks says:

    @dickr4chicks
They are admitting to wealth distributions. That is socialism per definition.
anyone who says otherwise needs to educate themselves.
